# Workspace access and visibility

> Understand how access and visibility work at the workspace level before you start sharing content widely.

Workspace access determines who can enter the environment and what they can discover once they are inside it. Visibility controls shape what is easy to find, what is restricted, and how collaboration happens safely.

## Access starts at the workspace level

Before someone can use a model or board, they first need access to the workspace itself. That is why workspace membership, join rules, and identity controls matter so much.

## Visibility is not the same as edit access

Someone may be able to see that content exists without being able to edit it. In other cases, sensitive content may need to be hidden entirely unless a user is explicitly included.

## Questions to answer early

* Who can join the workspace?
* Who can discover team or project areas?
* Which content should stay broadly visible?
* Which content should require explicit access?
