# Scenario overrides

> Use overrides to make scenario-specific changes without breaking inheritance unnecessarily.

An override is a value or logic change that exists only inside the active scenario. Overrides are what let a branch behave differently without rebuilding the whole model.

## What an override does

When you override a value in a scenario, that value stops behaving like the inherited baseline for that branch.

This is useful because it lets you:

* test one assumption without changing `Main Scenario`
* isolate one row or cell from the inherited baseline
* compare a targeted local change against the shared reference state

## Keep overrides intentional

Overrides are powerful, but too many small overrides can make a scenario hard to review.

A clean scenario usually has:

* a clear purpose
* a manageable set of local changes
* a reviewer who can explain why those changes exist

If a scenario becomes a patchwork of unrelated overrides, it is usually time to clean it up or split the work into separate branches.

## Inherited versus overridden values

The current feature model assumes users should be able to understand whether a value is inherited or overridden.

That matters because:

* inherited values may still change if `auto-sync from main` is on
* overridden values are local to the scenario
* merge decisions should be based on overrides, not on the full visible state

## Reset override

`Reset override` removes the scenario-local change and returns the value to inherited behavior.

After a reset:

* the local override should no longer apply
* the value should match the inherited source again
* future upstream changes should flow through again if `auto-sync from main` is still on

This is one of the most important cleanup actions in the feature because it lets users undo local divergence without rewriting the baseline.

## Overrides and read-only scenarios

If a scenario is read-only, users may still need to understand what was overridden, but they should not be able to create or reset overrides there.

That distinction helps keep approved baselines reviewable without making them mutable again by accident.
